The Lumix S9 in Titanium Gold: More Than Just a New Colour

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably already seen this special edition camera I’m about to talk about. But the Gold Titanium S9 isn’t just a fresh paint job…it comes with a pretty interesting story that I wanted to share.

How I First Heard About It

This is the Lumix S9 in Titanium Gold, a camera that first went up for pre-order in Japan at the start of June. I actually found out about it during my last trip to Tokyo, and as soon as I saw the first photo, I was obsessed.

The annoying part? Pre-orders opened the day after I flew home. I missed it by a matter of hours, and honestly didn’t think I’d get another chance to buy one properly from the UK.

So I did what any sane person would do: I pestered my friends at Lumix non-stop.

And then one day, this beautifully presented box shows up at my door.

What Came in the Special Edition Kit

Inside the box wasn’t just the Gold Titanium S9 itself. Lumix went all in on the experience:

• Matching 18-40mm lens
• Matching Coophe camera strap
• Custom stickers
• A handwritten note of thanks from the designer
• A genuine leather key organiser embossed with the Lumix logo
• A commemorative S9 pin, which is definitely going on one of my camera bags

I felt very, very spoiled.

The best part? A handful of these special edition kits are now available in Europe and the US. So you don’t need to import one, or hop on a flight to Tokyo (which I was absolutely willing to do).

Why This Colour Matters More Than You Think

To some people, this might just look like a cosmetic change. But I actually think it’s more than that.

Lumix clearly designed the S9 to appeal to a broad audience. A camera that comes everywhere with you. And while some people love the bold, loud colours, others prefer something more refined and subtle. Something that catches attention in a classy way, not a flashy one.

Does this make it look like a Leica or Fuji? No. And that’s not the point. It’s about exploring design directions that those users might enjoy.

And honestly? I think this Gold Titanium version nails that vibe.

Special Editions and the Joy of Collecting

If you’ve been to Japan, you’ll understand how deeply the culture embraces collecting. Gacha machines are everywhere, and people love finding creative little collectible items.

I hunted down a few S9 Gacha machines in Tokyo and ended up with tiny S9s, GH5s, and a bunch of mini digicams. All completely unnecessary… and completely wonderful.

That’s what I love about special edition cameras. They tap into that same sense of creativity and joy. They make you want to use the product more. And I hope Lumix keeps exploring this space.

What About Other Colourways?

If you agree that this is the best S9 colourway so far, definitely let me know. I’d love Lumix to keep experimenting, there are so many palettes and finishes they could explore.

Brands like Leica have done this brilliantly in the past with cameras like the bold grey M10 or the Q Khaki. It shows that colour can completely change how a camera feels.

It even makes me wonder:
What if the S9 launched at today’s price, with the 18-40mm lens, and in a colourway like this from day one?
Would the reception have been totally different?
Honestly…I think so.

Yes, I Still Love the S9’s Specs and Image Quality

You may have noticed I haven’t mentioned specs or image quality yet. That’s because I’ve already made plenty of videos showing what the S9 can do for both stills and video.

And since I’ve openly called it my favourite camera of all time, I think you already know how I feel about the performance side of things.

My Growing S9 Collection

This Gold Titanium S9 is actually my third S9. It now joins:

• My black model, which is beautifully battle-scarred
• The smokey white one Han uses to film me “pretending” to take photos

And yes, I plan to use the Gold Titanium S9 on my wedding day.
Should I be focusing on getting married? Absolutely.
Will I be taking candid shots anyway? Also absolutely. The grind never stops.

The Triple-Layer Paint Process

The finish on this camera is genuinely stunning, and there’s a reason for that. The Gold Titanium look is achieved using a three-layer painting process:

  1. Piano black base coat boosts reflectivity

  2. Mirror-smooth layer adds brightness

  3. Tinted clear topcoat delivers that warm titanium-gold tone

I don’t have any scuffs yet, but I’m curious to see how this finish ages over time.

Limited Availability

As I mentioned earlier, this edition is now available in Europe and the US, but only in limited numbers. If you want one, check the links in the description.
